Chapter sixteen

Aurora

Kingston nodded to me as I walked towards the church. He had driven me here to chase Caleb down. Caleb’s confession shocked me but also thrilled me too.

Luca and Kingston had found it amusing, saying it was about time the man grew some balls and told me how I felt and that left me even more confused.

I was struggling to understand how it was so easy for them to accept each other and now, to accept the possibility of someone else in my life. I had no idea what I was doing here, or what I wanted to come from this, but I knew I couldn’t at least follow through.

Caleb and I had spent years playing our dangerous forbidden game, I had spent countless nights fantasizing about one of them finally coming true.

He was the ultimate forbidden fruit and yet he was also a kind man, a man who I trusted, admired, and saw as family.

He was also sexy as all sin; it was a crime to humanity for him to be celibate and locked away in the church.

I had always thought I was just the bad influence, and he was indulging my desires, I never considered that he may actually want me just as much.

When he ran, I realized that it was more than just a game to him, this was his heart on the line and when Luca told me to chase him, I knew what came from tonight would change things forever.

I pushed open the church door, the light was dim and only a few candles were burning near the altar at the end of the walkway. Caleb was bent over in front of the cross, praying.

I clicked the door shut, flicking the lock to prevent any lost souls from wandering in and disturbing us.

As I walked towards him, my footsteps were muffled on the long carpet that ran the length of the stone floor but when I saw his shoulders stiffen, I knew he heard me.

I watched as he slowly turned, a pained look on his face as he studied me. The candlelight flickered behind him, casting shadows on the walls.

It made him look like an angel, or maybe a devil the way his eyes watched me. The sweater he wore was a dark moss green color, fitting snugly against his trim body.

The jeans though, were definitely pure sin. I rarely saw Caleb in casual clothes but when he did wear them, it was a stark reminder that he was pure man beneath the robes.

“Why are you here Aurora?” His voice was low but echoed off the stone walls and he couldn’t hide the pain beneath them.

“Why did you run, Caleb?” I asked, building up my own confidence to follow through with this plan.

“Because I was wrong. I shouldn’t have said what I did. I…” I took a step towards him, watching as he stepped back and nearly bumped into the altar behind him.

“Do you want me, Caleb?” I was tired of playing this game and I had nothing to lose.
